NOTICE ISSUED ON 30 JUNE 2010
Dear Webapps Customer.
iGroup’s shared hosting company, Webapps, has been providing its clients with a high quality service since 1998 in the shared hosting market. The market has however changed and Igroup, Webapps holding company, is changing with it.
The purpose of this message is therefore to inform you of our plans to discontinue Webapps’ shared hosting offering as a service of iGroup. The reasoning behind this decision is quite simple: iGroup’s rapid rate of growth within the secure dedicated hosting, e-commerce, mobi , design and digital development markets means that Webapps is no longer in line with our target offerings and strategy moving forward.
We will therefore be shutting down Webapps as of end August 2010 and all shared servers and services provided by Webapps will be de-commissioned. Due to this we will unfortunately not be able to continue providing you the services we currently provide on a shared basis. The option exists to move to an iGroup dedicated secure server or to move your hosting services to a new provider.
If you are interested in iGroup’s fully-dedicated secure hosting services, starting at R9500 ex vat per month with 1MB uncapped bandwidth as an alternative, please contact an iGroup sales representative at sales@igroup.co.za or on www.igroup.co.za
We will however still be offering the following services to our existing clients under the bigger mantle of our parent brand, iGroup:
- Semi-dedicated hosting
- Bulk SMS
- Bulk mail
- Consulting
Moving of Services
If you will however be moving your services to another host, our technical support department will be able to provide all your current details to you such as:
- Email accounts and passwords
- FTP accounts
- My SQL access details
- Copy of any current My SQL database
- Provide all Auth Codes for domain transfers
- Accept timely all domain transfer requests
PLEASE NOTE: We urge customers to complete the move of all their accounts by no later than Mid August 2010 to avoid disruption of services.
The transfer process
To ensure as smooth a transition as possible from ourselves to your new hosting provider, we ask that you follow these steps.
- Email support@webapps.co.za and state the names of the domains that you will be transferring, as well as the name of the company or individual who will be requesting the transfer on your behalf
- In the event of you transferring a .com, .net, org.za or .biz domain, we will need to provide you with an unlock code which your new hosting provider will require to start the transfer
- Ensure that you have downloaded a copy of your current website via FTP, and that you have placed the files on your new hosting providers servers. We will be able to provide you with all the information required to obtain this data from us
- Make a backup of any database(s) you may have on the site. Once again, we will be able to provide you with the necessary information to download this data
- Ensure that no email is left stored on our servers. You must download all your email using Microsoft Outlook or a similar email client. Once mail is deleted from our system there is no way of retrieving it again
- Verify with our accounts department that there are no outstanding fees due on your account. We will not allow a domain to transfer if there are fees due on it
- Once all the above has been completed, advise your new service provider to submit the transfer request.
Please also note that we will not be able to handle these transfers if they are requested telephonically. We do require that you submit an email request to our support team.
We recommend that you transfer your data and domains before mid August 2010 to avoid possible problems or data availability issues. Please also take note that there will be no extension on this date for any of our clients. iGroup’s tech support team will be more than willing to assist you in the process of moving to a new host before the due date.
Please also note that once the transfer process has been started that there is no way of stopping the transfer request, and that there will be a small window of downtime whilst the DNS transfer takes place from ourselves to your new provider.
For business continuity we suggest that you have an alternate email address set up, such as a Gmail account, where critical emails can be sent to in the event your email accounts experience any downtime.
Accounts
All accounts pending with Webapps will need to be brought up to date prior to transfer so we can ensure a smooth transition of data and services as the end August 2010 date is fixed as cancellation of our services for the Webapps network has already been processed for this time which will include the decommissioning of all shared hosting and mail servers.
Webapps would like to thank you for all your years of loyal support and we sincerely hope that we will be able to continue doing business with you as a valued iGroup client.
Best wishes,
The Webapps team
